Although we refer to these type of Dutch boxes as
“peppermint” boxes, they are in fact Loderein boxes,
used to house perfume in the later 18th-19th Century.
The word Loderein originates from the French term
“l’eau de reine” translated as “water of the king”, as
only the wealthy could afford the perfumed cologne.

In this instance, the box is made in the antique style
and has Dutch hallmarks with date letter of 1969, made
with thick gauge silver so a strung piece for your
